The ever-so-tiny Silver Firefly is one of the most important resources you'll need to find in Elden Ring. Unlike other insects you'll see, this one is completely harmless and only spawns in one type of environment. Its significance cannot be overstated, as the Silver Firefly is a component of an item that substantially aids in quickly scaling up your stats. Here's how to get it and what you can do with it.

To begin, it's important to understand that Silver Fireflies exclusively hang out in regions that are dark and have cold water. The ideal places to farm the material will be in the shadier areas of caverns, which are usually surrounded by little ponds.

This is true for caves located early in the game, such as Limgrave's Coastal and Groveside Caves (marked in blue below), where players can catch at least five Silver Fireflies. They can also be found in the open near sources of water, such as the Siofra River and Liurnia of the Lake's Laskyar Ruins. The bug is difficult to notice in any of these locations, although it appears as white dots of light on trees and cave walls.

A Silver Firefly can only be used to make one thing, but it's a good one. This consumable, known as the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot, will offer you additional runes for a limited time when you defeat enemies.

The Mercenary's Cookbook [1] can be purchased from Merchant Kale at the Church of Elleh for the recipe. As long as you have five Rowa Fruits, one Silver Firefly, and one Four-Toed Fowl Foot, you can make the item.
